What does Griffbereit want?

The focus is on toddler-friendly parent-child interaction (activities such as reading aloud, painting together, playing, etc.) in at least two languages: the family language(s) and German.

Who can participate in Griffbereit?

  • Children between one and three years of age and their parents/families who would like to get to know and use the potential of multilingualism already in the first years of their children's lives.
  • Children with and without a permanent place in childcare

Where do Griffbereit groups take place?

Griffbereit-Groups are offered in day-care centres, family centres, family education centres as well as in the context of migration organisations, etc.

When can my child start with Griffbereit?

As soon as the child is 1 year old and has a Griffbereit-group is offered.

When does a Griffbereit group take place?

New Griffbereit-Groups start at any time and usually take place once a week for about 1 year.

Who is responsible for the programme?

Griffbereit is professionally supported by the Land-wide coordination offices (LaKos). The LaKo is also responsible for the overall coordination in NRW and nationwide.

Is childcare provided for siblings during the Griffbereit group?

Yes, if parents/families with children under or over the age of the programme target group are attending, childcare can be provided.

Educational institutions that

  • register their interest with the KI or the nationwide cooperation partner or the federal transfer team
  • have sufficient rooms
  • show sufficient group size for the formation of -family groups (at least 6 interested families).

Which agencies should be involved in programming from the beginning?

Recommendable: Youth welfare office/specialist advice and possible sponsors and donors

Who should be networked with each other for the success of the programme?

  • Municipal Integration Centre/Federal Cooperation Partner

What are the tasks of the educational institution?

  • the programme Griffbereit functions as a concept of the educational institution (integrative offer)
  • Cooperation agreement between the CI/federal cooperation partner and the educational institution/promoter (stipulation of cooperation goals, cooperation contributions of the partners, finances)
  • Provide facilities for the parent/family group (and possible childcare).
  • Participation in the annual evaluation

What are the tasks of the KI/federal cooperation partner?

  • Presentation of the programme to interested providers, the KiTa team, etc.
  • Coordination/monitoring of the programme
  • Provision of the materials
  • Publicity for the programme
  • Participation in and evaluation of the annual evaluation
  • Basic qualification of parent guides and educators
  • Further training for parent guides and educators

Who is responsible for recruiting participants in the programme and which methods of recruiting families have proven successful?

  • the educational institution already refers to the programme during the registration interviews.
  • Possibly advertising via migrant communities and MSOs and, if necessary, in consultation with the Integration Council.

What are the tasks of parent guides?

  • Participation in the planning of the programme before it begins
  • Participation in weekly planning meetings and agreements with the teacher and educator
  • Weekly parent/family group (2 hours)
  • Participation in the basic qualification and further training for parent guides, reflection meetings
  • Participation in exchange and reflection meetings on site
  • Participation in the annual evaluation

What requirements should parent guides have?

What is the remuneration of the parent guides and which deadlines have to be taken into account?

As a rule, the work as a parent companion is remunerated. The LaKI collects average values and makes recommendations based on the rates for family education/VHS. However, the remuneration can also be based on the lump sum for exercise leaders or in the form of a mini-job. There is also the case of release of permanent staff, which replaces direct remuneration.

Appointments usually include:

  • Implementation of the group lessons
  • Training, further education
  • Reflection and planning meetings
  • Preparation and follow-up of the offers

Who trains the parent guides?

Recommended:

The training is led by the local AI/federal cooperation partner, who later organises the training. Griffbereit-The group leader accompanies the group and can thus be a contact person for the parent guides from the very beginning.

Information on the programme can be obtained from the local AI/federal cooperation partner.

Speakers can be brought in for specific topics, e.g. media education, literacy, etc.

Who concludes the cooperation agreement with the provider/educational institution and other partners?

The local CI or the nationwide cooperation partner concludes the cooperation agreement with the executing agency/educational institution and - if envisaged - with other partners.

What about cooperation agreements between LaKI and KI/federal cooperation partner or KI/federal cooperation partner and executing agency, institution?

Implementation is tied to cooperation agreements.

The cooperation agreements with the local providers or educational institutions are to be made regionally.

At what group size does it make sense to fund the programme?

A consistent group size between 6 (minimum) and 18 people is recommended.

What does long-term financing look like?

Possibilities:

  • Within the framework of integration and education conferences of the state/city/district, definition of integration goals, especially for language promotion, family education/adult education as well as synergy effects through state and federal programmes (IfKuF, Sprach-Kitas, etc.).
  • Local agreements to include budget Griffbereit firmly in the budget of the respective youth welfare office/family centre funds
  • Generous donation from a company / football club etc.
