With the nationwide parent mentor conference, we would like to honour your work as a parent mentor and give you the opportunity to find out about current developments and topics and discuss approaches in various specialist forums. The conference will also provide an opportunity to exchange information about the programmes and their working approaches as well as to network.

Title: Empowerment: more than just meeting at eye level
Speaker: Dr Carmen Yong-Ae WienandGoethe University Frankfurt am Main

Speaker: Dr Carmen Yong-Ae Wienand is a childhood and education researcher. She currently works as a freelance educator and speaker in the field of childhood in the migration society. From September 2021 to May 2022, she worked in the federal transfer team Griffbereit and Rucksack KiTa in coordination (on parental leave).

Brief description: After an input on power relations in early childhood, empowerment concepts will be discussed and concrete possibilities for practical implementation will be presented.

Title: Supporting and accompanying transitions in early childhood
Speakers: Sarah GousisFH-Niederrhein and Ellen Brings, ZfTI

Speakers:

Sarah Gousis completed her Master's degree in Social Work at the University of Duisburg-Essen in 2016. From 2020 to 2022, she worked as a research assistant at the Department of Social Work at Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, including in the pilot project "As early as possible - forging educational bonds". Since 2020, she has been working on her doctorate under Prof. Dr Donja Amirpur on the topic of "Empowerment and power sharing in (social) educational work with migrant families at the transition to the (early) education system" (working title).

Ellen Brings is responsible for materials development within the federal transfer for the griffbereitMINI, Griffbereit and Rucksack KiTa programmes.

Brief description: How can transitions from the family to educational institutions be successful? How can parental guidance support this process? The aim is to create a space for joint reflection.

Brief introduction of the speakers: Stephanie Schmidt, consultant in the area of good employment biographies at the NRW Regional Directorate, Inna Michailov, parent counsellor at KI Märkischer Kreis, Hannah Farhan-Dorn, MKJFGFI, and Miriam Weilbrenner, MKJFGFI

Brief description: In addition to career prospects, information and funding opportunities for further qualification are also presented using practical examples. The 2022/2023 parent counsellor survey serves as a basis.

Title "Translanguaging in families and daycare centres: Education for multilingualism from the perspective of educational professionals and parents"
Speaker: Maria J. Hammel, University of Cologne

Speaker: Maria J. Hammel is a research assistant and doctoral candidate with Julie A. Panagiotopoulou at the Chair of Educational Science specialising in Education and Development in Early Childhood at the University of Cologne. In her doctoral project, she is working on the reconstruction of pedagogical professionals' perspectives on multilingualism and translanguaging as pedagogy within the ethnographic research and training project TranslaPed (Translanguaging Pedagogy in multilingual daycare centres and schools in NRW).

Brief description: What do educational professionals and parents think about translanguaging pedagogy and multilingual education? In a research and training project, the University of Cologne has conducted many interviews and analysed practical examples to shed light on the views of educational professionals and parents.

Speaker: Prof. Dr Nadine Madeira FirminoFH Bielefeld

Speaker: Prof. Dr Nadine Madeira Firmino is a professor on the Childhood Education programme at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. Her work and research focuses on the areas of movement and language, multilingualism, everyday integrated language education and the observation and documentation of development processes.

Brief description: After presenting the special features of simultaneous and successive multilingual acquisition, simple practice-orientated elements and exercises are presented that show how language development can be supported through movement in everyday educational settings.

Title: Strengthening languages together!
SpeakerProf Dr Timm AlbersUniversity of Paderborn

Speaker: Prof Dr Timm Albers is a German educational scientist and educational researcher. He has headed the Inclusive Education working group at Paderborn University since 2014.

Brief description: Language education works best when families and educational institutions work together. Parent mentors play an important role in this, as they facilitate access to daycare centres, educational and counselling institutions and at the same time contribute to their opening to the migrant community.
